E4X works in firefox (Spidermonkey engine) and Rhino (JVM), which you can use in Eclipse Monkey. Here's two other good intros:

So it has limited applicability when it's only Firefox though it looks like something that could make its way into the core Javascript language just like regex did. Thanks for the links to the intros.
